I’ve been so busy this month, from running my kids to Nativity practice, choir practice, PREP school, ballet class, (etc, etc) while also trying to keep up my Book Event Coordinator duties (ie, sorting through hundreds of donated books each week), keep up to date with query replies, make next year’s writing/cooking goal list, and finishing my latest novel…I’ve had very little time to get into Christmas cooking!
(I haven’t even put the gingerbread house together with the kids yet…and that came in a box!)
Finally, yesterday, I made a step in the right direction and made a Christmas pie. It was the first time I ever handpainted dough with tiny paintbrushes. It was fun but it took over two hours to make the normally quick pie. While I was a little disappointed in the final look (I just couldn’t get the image of a child’s coloring book out of my mind), it went off with my husband to work.

I want to continue hand painting pies, but I’ll definitely have to do more trial and error before I’m satisfied.
So where does that leave me? I need to make Christmas cookies (ugh, I’m really not a fan, honestly!) and I need to plan for Christmas Eve dinner.
I finally got a menu together late last night (I think I was scribbling it down around 1 AM!)
My current menu:
Ham
Thomas Keller’s glazed carrots
purple cauliflower puree
Corn
Stuffing
Rolls
pumpkin pie
and possibly something with potatoes as we eat A LOT of potatoes in various forms here.
What’s on your Christmas menu? Give me some inspired ideas! There’s still a few days before I have to go grocery shopping for the holiday meals.
